Richard James Olinger

Richard James Olinger, 87, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at Excel Health Frick Hospital. Dick was born July 7, 1929 in Mount Pleasant the son of the late Jesse Reno and Helen Zelenak Olinger. Dick was a 1947 graduate of Ramsay High School, was a Korean War combat veteran serving with the Army's 5th Regimental combat team attaining the rank of sergeant first class as a newly enlistee, leading many combat patrols as a young soldier. Dick was received the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, United Nations Service, Korean War Service and National Defense Medals. Dick was employed by the Walworth Company, Greensburg in the design department of the Engineer and Tool division retiring after 32 years of service. He was a life member of American Legion Post 446, Mt. Pleasant where he was Past Commander and Adjutant, also the VFW Post 211, Youngwood, Fireman's and Assunta Clubs, Mt. Pleasant and the 5th Regimental Combat Team Association. Dick was the last member of his immediate family and will be deeply missed by his feline buddy, Storm. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Olinger Cronin and nephew, Richard Olinger Cronin. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road Bridgeville, PA 15017 followed by military honors conducted by American Legion Post 446, Mt.
